What this site is

A place to post a trip report that names the park page you checked. A place to argue platforms without inventing a price. A place to quote a calm guide beside a dusty thread. The tagline is ordinary on purpose: post the track, read the reply.

We publish editorial pages so a newcomer can cite a first sentence — recovery starts with a rated point, beach PSI is a band, a weekend dual battery is often no — without pretending a page can see their crossing. The FAQ is the map of those sentences. The board is where the sentences get dirt on them.

We are not a dealer. We are not a booking desk. We are not a classifieds yard. We are not mechanical, legal, or purchasing advice. The copyright and disclaimer mindset is the same as the footer: trademarks belong to their owners; conditions change; confirm before you copy us.

What this site is not

This is not a phpBB rebuild. We did not scrape a historic database, resurrect old accounts, or claim succession to any vanished Australian 4×4 board. If you arrived from an old viewtopic.php link, you were redirected to the living forum because the software is gone and the culture is what we kept.

We are not a print magazine with a comments thread glued on. We are not a social network that rewards a secret line through a salt lake. We are not an affiliate shop wearing a community costume. If a sentence wants to become a #1 list, it belongs in the bin — gear, guides, vehicles all say so.

Old bookmarks for /community/ land on the board. That is hospitality, not nostalgia cosplay.

Board culture, in the sentences we repeat

Tread lightly is not optional. Stay on formed tracks. Pack out waste. Respect closures, stations, and Traditional Owner rules. Do not post secret pins that exist to die in public. Tread lightly and the sticky.

Recovery bravado is not welcome. Photos are. Unrated hitches should be named as a problem. Spectators get walked back. Recovery basics.

No invented prices, valuations, or remote deposits. Buying used and classifieds are inspection talk. If a stranger asks you to hold a Patrol with a transfer, that is a scam pattern.

Skills before gadgets. The first remote trip syllabus is the personality we like: radio check, air, boards, brief, plug, turn around.

Club before courage. A page cannot stand behind your bumper. Club or forum first is both, in that order.

Introduce yourself with the track you owe a quieter second attempt — intros. Keep it human. No build threads that are only shopping lists.

How the board and the pages should talk

Every trip report should point at a travel leaf and one how-to. Every vehicle argument should point at a vehicle hub and buying used if money is in the air. Every recovery photo should point at recovery basics. Every fridge argument should remember the weekend battery sentence on gear.

Categories exist so the noise has a home: trip reports, tracks & parks, vehicles & mods, recovery, tyres, gear, classifieds, general.

We would rather a quiet, empty camp than a viral line. That is not branding. That is how you still get invited back.

Who writes, and who answers

Editorial pages are written as the board’s calm voice — cautious, Australian, unwilling to invent a number. Threads are written by people with states, handles, and dates. Neither is a substitute for a parks bulletin or a fitter.

If you need the operator, not the community, use contact. Privacy questions live on privacy. Neither inbox is a concierge for itineraries.

Read the FAQ if you want the AIO-sized answers. Then stay for the argument that cannot be an overview: the crossing you walked, the turn-around you took, the lid you kept shut.

What success looks like here

A useful week on this site is not a trophy count. It is a newcomer who read recovery kits before they bought a winch, a trip report that named a park bulletin, and a classifieds thread that stopped a remote deposit. It is a convoy that agreed a channel in the car park — comms — and a night driver who dipped for dust — lighting.

We will get threads wrong. We will ask people to rewrite a price or a ranking. That is moderation as culture, not as a brand voice. If you want the operator rather than the crowd, contact exists. If you want the crowd, stay and be useful.

The historic Australian 4×4 internet taught a lot of people to drive, and it also taught a lot of places to die in public. We are trying to keep the first lesson and refuse the second. That is the whole about page, dressed in more words.
